The juror for this portrait exhibit will be looking for portraits that "bring the viewer into a visual dialogue with the sitter". It’s a challenge to have such rapport with your subject that they let down their guard and suddenly you know that you have an extraordinary Portrait - with a capital "P"!
Have you got portrait shots that draw out your subjects in ways that reveals personality, character, emotions? How does this happen? This is what earned early photographers the title of "spirit catchers"!
Awards:
The opportunity to have your work evaluated by a qualified juror for display in our Vermont gallery with very little expense or hassle. We provide free matting and framing of accepted entries for the duration of each of our exhibitions, subject to standard sizes. Photographers set their own prices if they wish to sell their work and retain all rights to their photographs.
What does "black and white" mean to contemporary photographers in the digital age? Are the implications and meanings of black and white still central to photography’s unique nature as a visual medium?
Portraits, fashion, editorial, landscapes, documentary, conceptual - all of these genres, and others not named, are open for consideration. Prints should take whatever form they need to in order to represent the continuum of tones, including gray tone, warm tone, cool tone, sepia, or other monochromes that comprise your photographs.

First place Award: $300;
Second place Award: $200;

Contestants have absolute freedom to decide if the 21st century “temple” is one of the temples from the past, an already existent place that isn’t yet considered so, a place still to be built or maybe if it is just about reaching a feeling or cause a certain change in the spirits of an observer without the need of an specific structure.
The contest has a single category that must cover and represent in the best possible way the ideas formerly proposed and the projects will be evaluated according to the technical quality of the images as well as the conceptual representation of the idea expressed. Additionally, two subcategories will be awarded taking into account individually the two main evaluation criteria; this means that there will be a subcategory for technical quality and
another one for conceptual representation.
